Just back from the Sheenjek. It rained everyday and a normally babbling brook ran muddy and large, all the while consuming beaches where we normally camp. Our camp search image changed because of the rising waters, and we struck gold with these yellow dryas benches that rest out of sight, normally above a canoeist’s range of view. Oddly and thankfully all the side creeks were clear and at each one a concentration of loons and mergansers gathered to find fish more easily. The river has been used for hundreds if not thousands of years by traditional hunter and gathers. Once again the SOARs performed reliably as expected.
